Iran as a determinative geopolitical pole in the Middle East has some significant aspects of smart power which can reinforce its hegemony in this geopolitical sensitive region with reliance upon it. This research by using a descriptive – analytical method, attempts to answer to this question: what are the most important indices of Iran’s smart power and what are the geopolitical strategies proportional along with these indices in the Middle East’s current developments? This study, through employing the discourse analysis method of Laclau and Mouffe, aims at describing and understanding the identity discourses of the people in 6 important Middle Eastern countries, i.e. Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon and Pakistan in a more realistic manner. These identity discourses are in a way the product of articulating nodal points such as Islam, liberty, development, and in the final conclusion, some kind of relationship between elements of tradition and modernization. The truth is that instability and restlessness of nodal points and seeking to dominate one discourse through temporary articulations among identity nodal points and establishing one identity discourse and seeking to marginalize the rival discourse continues. The analysis of these opinion polls’ results suggests that one-sided and mental analysis in understanding the nature of these movements is ineffective and often-conflicting tendencies of the Middle Eastern people in inclining towards combining liberal and Islamic values in the midst of an effective economy, suggest the rivalry among identity discourses.}, Keywords = {Arab Movements, Identity Discourses, Pew Institute, Islamic Values, Liberal Values}, volume = {4}, Number = {3}, pages = {113-144}, publisher = {Islamic World Studies Association}, doi = {10.20286/priw-0403113}, url = {http://priw.ir/article-1-58-en.html}, eprint = {http://priw.ir/article-1-58-en.pdf}, journal = {Quarterly Journal of Political Research in Islamic World}, issn = {2322-2980}, eissn = {2222}, year = {2015} } @article{ author = {mohammadi, Naima and Javanmard, Kamal}, title = {Case Study of Women’s Social Movements in Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia}, abstract ={The problem of this study is related to diversity of women organizations’ demands in Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia that are belong to a single religious and cultural block. To illustrate this problem, using multiple case study (questionnaire and text analysis techniques) and applying Axel Honeth theory, the impact of political, ethnic and religious domination in shaping women’s movements in these four countries was studied. In each of these countries, in terms of different social structures, various species of women’s social movement are dominant that explain diversity of women’s demands. The results of regression analysis indicated that 66 percent of diversity of women’s demands are dependent to political, ethnic and religious structures. So, due to the amount, the first part of the research hypothesis based on the dependeny of women’s demands to the mentioned structures had been confirmed. To test the Honeth Theory and hypotheses of this research, CART software and decision tree analysis were used. The results of this test revealed that because of political structures’ broad commitment in explaining the diversity of women’s demands, there are more similarities among women’s movement in Malaysia and Turkey in one hand and Egypt and Saudi Arabia on other hand.
