Abstract:   (461 Views)
Economic sanctions are instruments that major powers have employed in recent decades in place of physical force, inflicting significant damage on targeted countries. Following the Islamic Revolution, Iran faced extensive economic and political sanctions, which have taken on diverse dimensions in recent years. The central question of the present study is: What impact have economic sanctions against Iran had on the country’s ranking in government governance quality during the 2010s? The study’s main hypothesis asserts that the intensification of economic sanctions in the 2010s has led to a decline in Iran’s governance quality rankings, including voice and accountability, political stability and absence of violence, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, rule of law, and control of corruption. The findings of this research indicate that in the years when economic sanctions against Iran were intensified, Iran’s ranking in governance quality indicators deteriorated. The research adopts a qualitative method and is conducted using a descriptive–analytical approach.
